On the evening of January 6th, 2024, the artist Zuo Jin painted a piece of music named Fantasia Synesthesia #1 on the stage of Li Delun Music Foundation's annual "East Meets West New Year's Concert". This 3 hour + long musical feast featured pieces by Strauss, Mozart, Verdi, Beethoven, as well as this original composition created in collaborations with a group of musicians known as the Bukaopu Ensemble as they watched the Mr. Zuo Jin create a composition in colour and form on a canvas on a large canvas placed centre-stage in the George Weston Recital Hall of the Meridian Arts Centre in Toronto. The project, nicknamed "Three Sounds to Ten Thousand Ways to Enlightenment", invites the audience to abandon material desires in pursuit of spiritual enlightenment while creating a new form of artistic performance combining music improvisation with painting created live in front of an audience.
The event was attended by a full house of enthusiastic audience members from diverse cultural backgrounds and all walks of life. Including one Consulate General of the People's Republic of China in Toronto, Weidong Luo(中华人民共和国驻多伦多总领馆罗伟东总领事)who congratulated the artist and expressed his interest of the piece by posing for a photo with it immediately after its completion during the concert's intermission.
The painting is now temporarily placed at the Meridan Arts Centre Lower Gallery.
