FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Li Delun Music Foundation Presents the Annual East Meets West New Year's Concert 2024

An "East Meets West" New Year's Concert! Toronto, January 3rd, 2024 – The Li Delun Music Foundation is thrilled to unveil the highly anticipated New Year's Concert, titled "East Meets West Concert of Favourite Classics," scheduled for January 6, 2024, at 7:30 pm at the Meridian Arts Centre. A non-profit arts organization, the Li Delun Music Foundation has been presenting a culturally diverse program on the first weekend of the new year since 2002. This longstanding concert, bridging cultures through the celebration of the new year with music, has become a tradition in Toronto. This year's program includes works by Mozart, Beethoven, Verdi, Strauss, as well as world-renowned living composers such as Toronto’s own Anlun Huang. The featured soloist is local piano talent, 17-year old Kevin Wang. Special mention is the world premiere of the 2024 New Year’s Symphonic Dance by Dr. Jin Wang, who has flown in from Vienna to lead the Toronto Festival Orchestra as the conductor.

Highlight of the Evening: "Fantasia Synesthesia #1"

Another groundbreaking composition, "Fantasia Synesthesia #1,” nicknamed “Three Sounds and Ten Thousand Ways to Enlightenment” (三声万悟) - a reference to the 42nd chapter of The Book of the Way (or Dao De Jing 道德经) by Lao Tzu, is considered the first musical composition of the enlightenist movement. The piece follows a philosophy of embracing the natural flow of life and incorporating randomness as a source of inspiration. Emerging from a live auction hosted by the Li Delun Music Foundation, where the three highest bidders (Solomon Hsu, Gloria Gao, and Mary Chen) won the honor of selecting a musical note each for the thematic material, the music was arranged and performed by the Bukaopu Ensemble, featuring cellist Rosalind Zhang and led by her brother, composer, and host of the concert, Kemin Zhang.

Music Meets Art

The concert organizers met Mr. Zuo Jin at Art Toronto and were inspired by his enlightenist paintings. United by their passion for artistic expression, they conceived this music and performance art piece that not only merges music and painting but also involves the audience as artistic contributors. During the rendition of "Fantasia Synesthesia #1 - Three Sounds and Ten Thousand Ways To Enlightenment,” Mr. Zuo Jin will spontaneously create a painting live on stage, while concert attendees are encouraged to bring their own crayons (or pens, markers, etc.) and actively participate in the piece’s world premiere performance, drawing along with artist Zuo Jin, creating a collaborative visual masterpiece during the live performance, signifying the vast tapestry of multicultural society being interwoven by threads of inspiration from each individual.

Bring Your Own Crayons to the Concert! A special page in the concert program has been left blank, encouraging members of the audience to unleash their creativity onto the page using their favorite medium, making this concert a “Bring-Your-Own-Crayons” event. Participants are asked to submit their work to the Li Delun Music Foundation at intermission, to be taken as the source of inspiration for a new original music composition to be featured at a concert later in the year. Participants can also showcase their artistic creations from the concert on social media platforms, tagging #enlightenism, as their contribution to the Enlightenist Art movement.
